Can A Detoxification and Weight Loss Programme Work Together ?

The answer is quite clearly yes!

The best you can do for your body is to have it clean inside and out – this will lead to having a far more efficient working system which will in turn lead to an increased metabolism ensuring the foods you eat are delivered to the right cells in your body for ultimate nutrition, wellness and balance.

Body cleansing or detoxing, as it is commonly known, is a fabulous way to promote weight loss. Over time, through poor diet and exposure to environmental toxins, our bodies gather toxic waste materials, which are held in our cells, organs and fat. This will lead to a sluggish metabolism, high acidity and disease as well as weight gain.  The body just cannot be efficient when it is all clogged up – just like the engine in the car.

Cleansing the body with a suitable body detoxification program creates the ideal environment for efficient weight loss.  Using natural foods and pure water over a period of time is the only way to achieve the best you can, there is no quick fix, no need for fancy products, pills or potions.  A natural body detox, in which we cleanse our body of stored toxins will not only help with weight loss but it will increase energy and clarity for motivation as well as ensuring we are keeping ourselves free from disease. Cleansing our intestines of built up waste material will decrease bloating, bringing down as much as a few inches from our waistline. It will make for an efficient lymphatic system which can then do the job it is intended to do wiping out bacteria and viruses helping us to feel better and look better. A purified body will operate better, and our metabolic rate will increase, which means that your body will burn more calories for the same amount of activity.

The first step is to find a suitable detox programme. If it’s your first time you will no doubt feel daunted by the massive amount of material available through stores, books, the internet and other media.  The best thing is to think natural all the time, go back to the hunter gatherer days, eat what is in season and as local as possible. Many body cleanse regimens emphasize only one part of the body i.e the liver cleanse, this is all well and good but without having every system and organ functioning fully will lead to a hold up in your progress.

  • A tremendous amount of body cleansing plans can really do more harm than good.
  • Extended fasting with a lack of nourishment is problematic, and many herbal detox products promise big results contain significant amounts of intense purgative herbs.
  • Pick your body detox plan with care.
  • Check out only those that have been written by professionals with a history of clients that have been successful.
  • Do not follow celebrity programmes as they were designed around the celebrity not for general use.
  • If you are feeling really sick, consult with a health care provider such as a nutritionist or even your Doctor.
  • You don’t need to spend money on pills, potions and other get fit quick schemes.

Detox Diet Plan Success Story

Here is a story about a friend’s husband! This could be you or your spouse even! I bet you know someone like this too – maybe it’s you!

I have recently been working with a friend’s husband – yes a friend of mine of 15 years. You would think they would be interested in their health because they knew me, not so! Her husband would not deal with his weight problems. He ended up by the time he got to his 50th birthday with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 11 diabetes, not a combination of disease that anyone would want and STILL he would not deal with it. He simply accepted the medication from the doctor – until a month ago when he was threatened with divorce !!! SERIOUSLY – my friend could not face a future with a husband who would become an invalid.

How to Lose Weight

Myths, Errors and what’s really Right!

SOMEHOW, the diet and fitness media and marketing world has put together all sorts of assortments that will make you think you will lose the weight, but only to be a selling gimmick! The weight loss industry is one of the largest out there, and why? Because people want a quick pill or device that will melt the fat off for them! Spare yourself the waste and realize this: Losing weight comes down to a very simple equation: If the amount of calories you eat in a day exceed the amount you burn, you will gain weight! If the amount you eat is less than you burn, you will lose weight!

So your journey of weight loss begins with a Healthy Tart style of eating! The 30 day detox is meant to clean up the damage you’ve done to your digestive, endocrine and cardiovascular system, and my workouts will help get you fit, strong and a fat burning machine! So if you haven’t already, you need to seriously bucker down and evaluate what and how much you are putting into your mouth!

Next is exercise. We know that exercise burns calories, and burning fat is all about burning calories.

The thing I want you to grasp is that burning fat and getting fit happen at the same time; they’re not independent of each other.

The more total calories you burn, the more fat you will burn. Therefore, you want your workouts to be challenging and intense!

How to Lose Weight!

How to Lose Weight!

If you’re mosying through your workouts, not pushing yourself, and are doing the same thing everyday, DON’T expect your body to change. It won’t. So, progress your workouts! Do things you don’t like doing! You’ll burn more total fat with more intense workouts, and you’ll get fitter, faster!

Don’t worry about the whole “Fat Burning Zone” and “Cardiovascular Zone”! It’s crap! The more calories you burn, the faster the weight will come off and the faster you will become fit!

The unfortunate thing is, if you’ve been sitting on your butt for the past 5-10 years, or even 6 months, you can’t go crazy your first day back, nor your first week! You need to follow your heart rate prescription until you healthy enough to turn on the juice! Don’t worry though, your workouts WILL seem challenging and will make you lose weight, if you haven’t been doing anything for a while. Focus on sticking to your 7 Day Layouts, (not missing workouts) and eating like a Healthy Tart.

I have made your workouts specifically and safely catered for where you are at, and what you can do, each step of the way. They are specifically designed to strengthen up your body, clear, clean and strengthen your cardiovascular system, and make you lose weight at the same time.

As variety is also essential for maximizing fat loss, I have included different kinds of exercise: swimming, aquajogging, track workouts, weight workouts, biking, stair stepper and elliptical. So FOLLOW MY WORKOUTS. They will make you succeed, no matter where you are!

The Issue of Metabolism

I was recently asked about metabolism and why people can’t just seem to lose weight. Here’s my reply:

In the issue of metabolism, metabolism in the breakdown of calories will be the same for everyone. When you exercise, you burn calories, and the rate at which you burn them wont change unless you have a bunch of muscle mass, for which we women don’t need to worry about.

SO- with metabolism, you’ve got to exercise if you want to burn fat and lose weight. (I’m not addressing the metabolism of food right yet). 95% of the trainers out there train their females WRONG. That is why I highly encourage you both to come to my event. You MUST exercise to burn calories- lots of them. So this doesn’t mean weight training, riding on some stationary bike or even walking (unless you weigh 100lbs too much), this means running, swimming, sprinting- stuff that will burn SERIOUS calories. The good thing is that this form of training is the kind of training that will benefit your cardiovascular health the best… You don’t want to start off right away with that form of training if you’re just starting out, or if you have medical problems, but if should be your goal to get there.

I will talk more in detail during my presentation at the next Healthy Tart event, if you cannot attend, please get a copy of my book, Healthy Fitness Central.

As far as your food metabolism, I haven’t yet heard a woman out there who has a high metabolism. Our hormones were made to store fat, that’s what we were “blessed” with… due to this God given natural phenomenon, we have got to evaluate the foods we are eating. If you think you eat well, but you’re not losing weight, there’s no catch. YOU’RE NOT eating as well as you think. We’re not freaks of nature. Our metabolisms are all pretty much the same. We can alter them through exercise and how much of it we do, and we can alter it through drugs and shots, (which I don’t endorse!).

I can be in denial as much as I want to of why I can’t lose weight, but really what it comes down to is, how much and the quality of food I am eating. You must eat CLEAN food. This probably doesn’t mean what you are thinking.

I want you to take a look at this woman.

http://ola-life.org/videos.php Look at her making Living Cacao Cream Pie, Nori Rolls, and Spring Rolls.

She eats 100% pure and organic food and she is vegan. She is the leanest natural person I’ve ever seen, and she’s pregnant. OBVIOUSLY she’s got it down. She’s serving her body and her body is serving her. She inspires me to want to change and be even better. She eats like a Healthy Tart would.

So, even though you are thinking you are eating the right stuff, you’re not if you’re not at your optimal weight. Something is wrong. Something you are DOING is wrong.

We can explore this further together in the Healthy Tart event.

Yes, your metabolism slightly slows down in your 40′s and 50′s.. WHY? Because you become LESS ACTIVE and you start losing muscle mass because you are LESS ACTIVE. Christine is a testament to that. She easily lost 60lbs and she’s over 50. It’s not rocket science people, it’s really quite simple.

On becoming a Healthy Tart

My daughter and her family came to visit me for Christmas 2007.  I had been gradually putting on weight for a few years a little bit at a time and doing very little exercise… just a bit of walking, occasional tennis and a lot of xBox (I still love Halo).

I turned 50 in 2005 and seemed to just put on weight after that.  I assumed it was part of being older, slowing metabolism and all that.  I wasn’t doing anything much different than before and had always maintained a reasonable body weight.  At least, no-one was calling me fat (to my face).

I knew I had to get my weight and general level of fitness under control as I had embarked on the Healthy Lifestyle project with Trisha Stewart (a excellent nutritionist I had met in England) and if I get involved in a project, I have to totally believe in it and get fully immersed.  Being overweight and unfit wasn’t going to cut it.

I had been working with Trisha Stewart on her book ‘Healthy Tart’ for several months and it was time to put the advice contained in that book into practice. So on January 2nd, 2008 at 52 and weighing in at 215lbs, my quest to regain my body, my health and my optimal weight began.

In the past, I’ve been a bit of a fast food junkie.  Not McDonald’s so much as Denny’s, Shari’s, Applebees, Chinese, Mexican, Thai… and any other restaurant that would get me out of cooking myself.  My freezer was full of microwave meals.  Trisha’s book, Healthy Tart, formed the basis of my nutritional journey to get my body back.  One of the first things Trisha tells you to do is clear out all the garbage from your freezer and fridge, and unfortunately I don’t think she meant eat it… so out went all the microwave meals, ice cream, diet soda… in fact everything that tasted good but was filled with chemicals.  Also had to get some semi decent knives.

The ‘30 day detox’ forms the core of Healthy Tart as it’s what kick starts your system into getting on track and healthy.  More on that later.

At the same time as the nutritional element of my journey, I had to start exercising.  When Trisha and I started discussing the Healthy Lifestyle series, it occurred to me that we should have a full workout / fitness training aspect to the program so a couple of months earlier I decided to look for a suitable personal trainer.  As luck / fate would have it, a few days later I went to my weekly business network meeting and in walked a tracked suited, bespeckeled blonde who introduced herself as Christin McDowell, personal trainer!

My bullet point list for personal trainer was:

  • Female
  • Highly Qualified
  • Assertive
  • Attractive
  • Able to speak and present well

Christin looked to be perfect for the task so I asked her if she would like to go for a coffee and discuss a proposition I had for her.  She accepted.

At that meeting I told her about Trisha and the project.  She loved the idea and was excited to be involved.  I also told her that as project leader I had to get in shape and lose some weight.  I mentioned that although I was somewhat overweight, I was still pretty fit.  She managed to stifle her laughter.  Little did I know what she had planned for me!

At this point I should say that anyone in their early 50s deciding to turn back the clock and shed 30 years of self abuse through bad diet and lack of exercise is in for some hard work, both physically and mentally.

So the stage was set… I had a nutritional / diet plan and a personal trainer.  Time to get to work!
